To mark National Apprenticeship Week (14th – 18th March) we are putting the spotlight on Karen Hui who joined Pine Court Housing Association in June 2015 as a Bi-lingual Housing Apprentice.
Formed in 1986, Pine Court was originally established to provide quality homes and housing services for those in need, with a specific focus on the Chinese and South East Asian communities. With properties across Liverpool and Wirral we provide bi-lingual services which enable Chinese speakers to access the full range of services and facilities available to the wider community.
Karen, who is bi-lingual and speaks three languages including Cantonese, Manadarin and English as well as local Chinese dialect Chichau, joined Pine Court on a two year apprenticeship.
As a Housing Apprentice Karen has been working on a variety of tasks, including admin support, translation, interpreting and customer liaison.
Karen said: “Previously I worked in the retail sector. Now that my children are more independent I thought it would be a good time to change my career path. I’ve been so impressed by what I’ve seen here. It’s very interesting work and all my colleagues have been so supportive. I’ve really enjoyed communicating with customers and I’m looking forward to helping them more in future.”
David Brown, Director of Operations for Pine Court said: “We are proud to support apprenticeships within our organisation to provide training and support to individuals and help them establish a career within the housing sector. Karen has proved to be an asset to Pine Court and a positive ambassador for the apprenticeships programme.”
