Pine Court Housing Association customers marked Chinese New Year alongside the local members of the community with a jam packed day of festivities on Wednesday 6th February.
Taking place at Pagoda Arts Centre on Henry Street, this year’s event welcomed the Year of the Pig – a Chinese zodiac sign associated with diligence, compassion and generosity.
Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association (who also took part in the city centre parade over the weekend) entertained guests with colourful Chinese dragon and lion dances as well as martial art performances.
China’s long cultural heritage was celebrated with 2000 year old music played on traditional instruments by Pagoda Arts Centre musicians and Chinese fan dancing from Wah Sing Chinese Community Centre.
Alongside the live entertainment guests also enjoyed delicious Chinese food with spring rolls, sui mai and beef in black bean sauce going down a storm.
Joining Pine Court Housing Association tenants in the festivities were guests from local community groups such as Pagoda Arts Centre and Chinese Wellbeing, representatives from Liverpool Chinese Business Association as well as tenants and staff from Steve Biko Housing Association.
Director of Pine Court Housing Association, David Brown, said: “It’s always brilliant to see in Chinese New Year with our tenants, staff and friends from partner organisations. And the Year of the Pig promises to be a great year for Pine Court as we embark on our biggest social housing development ever with Livingstone Park in Birkenhead.”
