On Sunday 1st June we joined forces with the only other BME (Black, Minority & Ethnic) Housing Association in Merseyside, to organise a Big Lunch event in the South of Liverpool; treating our older residents to a selection of cultural cuisine and entertainment.
Big Lunch is a nationwide initiative, held on the first Sunday of June each year, with a mission to bring together people from local communities and encourage them to have lunch together, in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
We saw this as a perfect opportunity for our residents to mix with other elders from the city. They enjoyed a number of activities, including a Tai Chi session, Ping Pong tournament, a dancing lesson, chair based exercise session and performances from a traditional Chinese singer, one of our residents.
David Brown, Director of Operations at Pine Court Housing Association, said: “It was a great day, enjoyed by all those who attended. Everyone was keen to get involved, and many of them were up singing and dancing throughout the day.
“The feedback has been brilliant and we look forward to planning more joint projects with Steve Biko Housing Association in the future; and I’m certain we will be planning another Big Lunch next year.”
