On Saturday 7th November we joined forces with Steve Biko Housing Association to organise a community lunch event in Liverpool; treating our older residents to a selection of cultural cuisine and entertainment.
The event took place at Chung Hok House and this was the perfect opportunity for our residents to mix with other elders from the city. The event was also attended by Councillor Gerard Woodhouse, Mayoral lead for older people in Liverpool.
Cllr Gerard Woodhouse said: “I am thrilled and proud to support the coming together of different cultures in an act of friendship and community for the community lunch event at Chung Hok House. We work to promote equality and diversity for all residents in Liverpool and to provide services that respond to the diverse range of customer needs and aspirations. This is a great example of that partnership working.”
There were plenty of activities to keep guests entertained including chair based exercises, mini pampering sessions, free raffle prize draw and health and wellbeing activities. Residents were also presented with free fresh fruit and vegetable packs as part of a healthy eating initiative. Cultural fare was prepared in the communal kitchen at Chung Hok House and served to employees, customers and volunteers by Chinese Wellbeing who are dedicated to physical, mental and social wellbeing, independent living and community support.
David Brown, Director of Operations for Pine Court said: “It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all those who attended. The feedback has been brilliant and we look forward to planning more joint projects with Steve Biko Housing Association in the future.”
Beverley Williams, Community Regeneration Manager for Steve Biko Housing Association said: “This is our second joint lunch event with Pine Court and we were delighted to have the support of a number of other partners. Last year’s event was held at one of our sheltered housing schemes so we were pleased to be invited to Chung Hok House this year. The feedback has been really positive from our tenants who visited Pine Court for the first time and we are exploring further opportunities to work together in the future.”
