Moving into a new home marks the start of an exciting chapter, but we understand there is also a lot to do. This guide is designed to help you navigate the important steps before you settle in.

Moving home checklist:

- Setup your rent payment for peace of mind: You might need to setup a direct debit for your rent payment or arrange for Universal Credit to pay us.
- Register for our customer portal and manage your account online: My account
- Contact the gas and electricity suppliers: When you move in to your new home, you will need to provide meter readings to ensure your first bill is correct.
- Register your new address: You need to register for Council Tax at your new address.
- Register with the water company: Contact your water provider to let them know you have moved in and ensure your first bill is correct.
- Compare home broadband prices: If you wish to install home broadband, it’s a good idea to compare prices from different provider to ensure value for money.
- Take out home contents insurance: This insurance helps protect your belongings against unexpected events.
- Pack a box of essentials for your first night: Include things like tea, cereal bars, milk, toilet paper, personal essentials and anything else you will need as soon as you arrive.

- Royal Mail: Arrange for your post to be sent to your new address.
- Utility companies: Update your gas, water, telephone, and electricity providers with your new address.
- Local council: Ensure you contact the local council to let them know you are leaving your old address and provide your new details.
- Doctor and dentist: If you are moving to a new area, you will need to register with a new doctor and dentist.
- TV Licensing: Let them know you have moved.
- DVLA: Ensure you contact the DVLA to update the address on your driving licence (if you have one).
- Bank: Tell your bank you have moved and amend any direct debits or standing orders relating to your home.
- Other services: Contact insurance companies, mobile phone companies, or grocery delivery services you use to register your new address.
- Friends and family: Make sure everyone who needs to know your new address has it.
- Schools and nurseries: If you have children, update their school or nursery with your new address.

- Smoke detectors: Test the batteries and ensure they are in full working order.
- Water stop tap: Locate the stop tap and ensure you know how to turn off the water in an emergency.
