Community spirit shines at the Pine Court Community Cup 2025!

August 1, 2025

The competition was undeniably bright this past Sunday, July 27th, as Pine Court Housing Association proudly hosted our second annual Pine Court Community Cup at the LCFA Sefton Football Centre! Following the incredible success of our inaugural tournament last year, we were thrilled to welcome more teams and spectators for a day brimming with fantastic football, community spirit, and fun. This year’s 7-a-side tournament brought together individuals and teams from a diverse range of backgrounds, with strong representation from our cherished Chinese and South East Asian communities. It was a true testament to the power of sport to unite people and break down barriers.

The atmosphere was electric! From impressive displays of skill and teamwork to incredible sportsmanship, every match was a joy to behold. Players gave it their all on the pitch, and off the field, the friendship was just as strong, with cheers of encouragement echoing across the centre.

We were honoured to have a special guest, Chris Makin, a retired professional footballer with a distinguished career, join us as one of our referees. Beyond his expert officiating, Chris took on a new initiative to help promote pathways into the sport. He was on hand to offer advice on how to get into refereeing and coaching, pointing people toward local FA-run courses and learning opportunities.

Shaun Williams, Senior Housing Officer at Pine Court Housing Association shared his thoughts

It was fantastic to see so many people come. The Community Cup is more than just football; it’s about building bridges, celebrating our diverse communities, and creating lasting connections. We’re incredibly proud of how everyone embraced the spirit of the day.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our incredible partners, volunteers, and colleagues. A huge thank you once again to David Liu from the Liverpool Chinese Football Club whose tireless efforts were instrumental in organising and delivering another seamless event.

The true victory lay in the connections made and the vibrant community spirit on display. The Pine Court Community Cup is a celebration of togetherness, a platform for promoting cultural cohesion, and a testament to the thriving, diverse communities we are so proud to serve. We are already looking forward to making the Pine Court Community Cup 2026 even bigger and better! Stay tuned to our news and social media channels for updates on next year’s event and other exciting community initiatives.
