The Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Lunar Calendar. For this year, the festival lands on 25th September 2026.
The Moon Festival is a celebration that promotes the gathering of family and friends, as well as celebrating a good harvest year on the day where the moon is the brightest and fullest. To celebrate, lanterns of all shapes and colours are hung up and carried around during the night, while enjoying a meal with the family. The most common food eaten during the festival are mooncakes, a patterned pastry filled with sweet-bean or lotus-seed paste and sometimes filled with an egg yolk to resemble the full moon.
At Pine Court, we are celebrating with the Chung Hok House Resident Association and enjoying traditional stories with the residents of Chung Hok House, as well as eating Chinese meals and mooncakes.
