As part of Gas Safety Week 2026, we’re highlighting the importance of gas safety and the role it plays in protecting our customers, homes and communities.
Gas safety is about more than meeting legal obligations; it is about providing reassurance that homes are safe, secure and well maintained.
Every year, Gas Safe registered engineers carry out essential safety inspections across our homes, helping to ensure appliances, pipework and flues remain safe and compliant. These visits also provide an opportunity to check smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms where installed, giving customers added confidence that vital safety systems are working correctly.
We have a legal responsibility to maintain gas appliances and systems safely, and annual gas safety checks form an important part of this commitment. These inspections help identify potential issues early, support compliance with safety standards and help ensure homes remain safe.
This year, updated industry standards are being introduced to further strengthen gas safety practices and support continued improvement across the housing sector. The changes form part of wider updates to gas safety requirements and best practice guidance. Customers can find further information through the Gas Safe Register.
While these changes will largely take place behind the scenes, we encourage customers to remain vigilant and report any gas safety concerns as soon as possible.

- Never attempt gas work yourself
Only a Gas Safe registered engineer is legally permitted to carry out work on gas appliances, boilers, fires, cookers and pipework. Attempting repairs or alterations yourself could place you, your household and your neighbours at serious risk.
Know the signs of a gas emergency
If you smell gas, believe there may be a leak, or have concerns about the safety of a gas appliance, act immediately and leave the affected area if necessary. Contact the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and then notify us as soon as possible.
